3 Steps to Catch Up On Work After the Holidays

Once everyone is back from vacation, it’s likely that your inbox is full and your calendar is getting crowded with meetings. If you’re having trouble catching up with your workload, here are a few tips that will help you get back on track.


Review Last Year’s Business Plan

Now is the perfect time to take a look at how your business performed in the previous year. Did you accomplish all of your goals? What percentage of your employees met their targets? Take a look at the details of your business plan and update them according to the successes or obstacles that you experienced last year. Use your findings to help set your new goals for this year.


Set Goals

Outline a series of short-term and long-term goals to get you back on track. Before diving back into work, write down a list of all of your responsibilities for the next few weeks and set deadlines for yourself. If you open your email and immediately start responding, you might end up feeling overwhelmed, which will affect the quality of your work. Having a checklist on hand can put your day in perspective and allow you to physically see your goals being met.


Keep Multitasking to a Minimum

It’s hard to focus when your inbox is full, paperwork has piled up, and everyone wants to meet with you. But you can’t do everything at once. Remember that you are not the only one playing catch up. Prioritize your responsibilities and tackle them one at a time. If there are ways that you can effectively knock out two tasks at once, go for it. But keep in mind that you can’t multitask everything or your day will quickly spiral out of control. Add meetings to your notifications, block off time for checking emails and catching up on work, and most importantly, stick to your schedule.
